UPDATE: John's funeral will take place at 2.40pm at Nab Wood Cemetery on the Thursday 3rd November and then up at Baildon Rugby Club thereafter.
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the death of Mr John ‘Bull’ Taylor at the age of 85. He was taken into hospital on Wednesday last after a fall at home but passed away from a suspected heart attack on Saturday 24th September 2022.
Bull (back row in the middle) started playing at BRUFC in 1955 and his immense presence was always of great value in the days when the line-out was a far more individual contest than today.
The backs could always rely on a good supply of ball. For such a big man he was surprisingly quick over a short distance. During his National service days he played rugby for the RAF in Germany with such acclaim that he earned his nickname. He was well known to the Yorkshire rugby fraternity for he was the sort of character that having met him you always remembered him.
He was always cheerful and he had a marvellous sense of humour. His party-piece rendition of the song about a well-known Scottish river was priceless.
During the last few years, his health had been declining and getting about had become a problem. Even so he always looked forward to the start of the rugby season and he made every effort to get to the club to watch the first team home game with his group of ‘cronies’.
He was most certainly a man you don’t meet every day.
